Hello Nat's bridal party!
Check out the title of this first blog - A Beautiful Wedding. With bridesmaids like us, ain't that the truth?!
So let's get started on narrowing down our choices. See below for my suggestions. Obviously, I can be swayed any which way (majority vote wins), so I have no problem in making amendments to my personal preferences. However, keep in mind that we will paying for these pieces, so I would rather invest in those that are wearable after the wedding as well. Thus, simplicity, elegance, and versatility are the key terms running through my mind as I peruse through the wonderful online selections of Walmart, Target (pronounced Tar-jay, thankyaverymuch) and any other accessible inexpensive department store that is willing to sell decent accessories within my budget. Capische?
Earrings:
I believe we decided on drop-down earrings because our necks will be bear. I looked around. Apparently, we've got expensive taste... Please click here for the perfect pair (based on look alone.) Price, however, denies us these beauties, but at least it gives us a visual on what I think we should look for. (Differing opinions totally acceptable, so speak up if you have any reservations. Ebby, will these work for you?)
Bracelet:
Obviously, anything that matches, right? Ha... I can't seem to find anything that resembles the earrings above. Perhaps when I go shopping...
Hair:
From Gina and Danielle's conversation about the half up/bangs swooped to the side/wavy hair look, I gathered it looked something like this?
Sorry, I can't seem to downsize... The back looked something like this:
Apologies for the self-modeling; from the sound of it, this was the look we were going for... Maybe a tad less curl and a bit more definition for the knot. And apologies for the vodka tonic in hand. I'm hirable, I promise.
For the other suggestion (bun to the side/bangs swooped as well), please refer to the following.
Front looked like this:
Back like this:
Comments/questions/concerns?
My vote actually goes to the side bun - August weather/bridesmaid duties are gonna have us going WILD, so I'd prefer if my Medusa-inspired mane is out of my face. Also, I personally think it might look better with the halter top. (Maybe get a pretty clip/ baby's breath/sample of our bouquet and stick 'em around the bun?) Pretty, pretty.
Shoes:
Here are a few suggestions:
2. Cole Haan Air Carma Slingback Platform --- $150 (ouch, says my wallet, but it is exactly what we are looking for - comes in both bronze or gold. regardless, i don't know about ya'll, but hell no, i can't afford that.)
As you can tell, I had trouble finding champagne-colored shoes, so if you are a proponent of that option, I recommend doing more research. Also, because of the style and cut of the dress, I actually think just a peep-toe pump is better vs. the sling-back. It's a classic cut with an A-line frame - a pump will emphasize the vintage feel of the dress and the pearls. Another thing - my worry about non-metallic shoes (not gold or bronze) is that it must match the sash perfectly. If not, we might look a hot mess. So think of that when you're looking around as well. I may even go so far as to say happily bring the sash in your purse as you shop around. :)
Bridal Shower: July 11th or July 18th (preferably on the night when she is supposed to work so she is more surprised. (SURPRISE, you're fired, let's go out! Imagine! Gina, call up awkward boy and work your magic, thanks.)
A (very rough) outline of activities, etc.
A. Setting Up
1. Invitee List - Gina, I assume you're doing this, but you might want to have something off your hands, and I've got extensive experience in public relations. Lol.
2. Invitations? How many people are we thinking?
a. Ask Natalia for work/family contacts ASAP
B. Natalia's Outfit -
1. Encourage Nat to buy both Bridal Shower + Party outfits well in advance.
2. Have her pack up a bag including all of this. Have Ahmad hide it (so when you, Gina, take it from him, she won't realize it's gone)
C. Food + Drinks (what to buy - will be amended based on the number of people attending)
1. Hamburger patties + bread + cheese
2. Hot dogs + bread
3. Grilled Chicken
4. Corn on the Cob
5. Fruit Salad - Watermelons, honeydew, canteloupe, strawberries, blueberries, pineapples. oHMY. who's hungry?
6. Vegetable Platter ( + dip. D, holla atcha girl)
7. Ketchup/Mustard/BBQ sauce
8. Crackers + Cheese
9. Soda/juice/beer/wine/alcohol (jungle juice highly recommended)
10. Cake - I'm guessing we're doing Dominican Cake. HEY... totally fine by me! (Contact cake place on Smith St. Can't quite remember the name.)
11. Other types of dessert... did someone say flan?? Oh, that was just my stomach.
12. Plastic utensils (forks, knives, spoons, napkins, plates, cups)
D. Decorations -Beach Party Theme
1. Balloons
2. Table covers
3. Party City/Spencer's/Ricky's shopping trips
a. confetti, bridal shower themed,
b. Question: Should we maybe make this a sex-themed party as well? More/juicier games that way. I suppose this will depend on our audience.
E. Games (just brainstorming)
1. Bridal Bingo (came up during the meeting, but also dependent on the number of people/presents)
2. During my sister's going-away party, we had a "Jeopardy" game. People got together in groups and we asked questions about the guest of honor. It was kinda hilarious. This is tentative based on the number of people coming, (people obviously know different levels of Nat, so it might not be fair) but it's definitely a fun time.
3. If NOT, I think a trivia game focused on marriage-based questions would be fun. Then, Nat could also participate.
4. The Panty Game: I just thought of this. Bwuahah. Buy 10 pairs of undies. Hand to 10 people who are willing to say something to Nat (maybe a blessing for their marriage/ tip for the honeymoon/ reason why we love her, etc) and then give her the undies... Take a picture with all the undies around her head. Anything to embarrass her.
Bachelorette Party:
A. Jersey-based. $30/head max.
B. Finalize venue by first weekend in May so we can book 3 mo in advance. (D, do you need help with this or are you handling it?)
Group gift:
A. I think this is a great idea, Leslie. Let's do it! A poem is adorable and I want to make her cry. :) We'll decide on the gift once we know what is on her registry.
B. Ebby, I also want to take advantage of your photog skills and company. Let's all get together and take pictures to make a collage including the photos and poem and place in a frame. We can also add pictures of her and Ahmad and her with us individually. Yep, I already see the tears.
OK. I am officially beat. And kinda disgusted. Have you ever watched "Bizarre Foods w/ Andrew Zimmern" on the Travel Channel? OMG. Dude, he's eating a bat. Ewwwgh.
Another thing: I will be out of the country from April 24- May 7. Since we need to make decisions about the Bachelorette Party by the weekend I get back, we should probably just meet that weekend or the weekend after. Although I think Heba and Ebby - you guys can't make it that weekend?
Oh. And one more thing: Sorry it was ridic long. :-/ Please comment!
BRIDAL LOVE!
G

Ok, well that was long but i think it was perfect. It was a great summary of everything we went over at the meeting, so great job geia!
ReplyDeletenow..Hair: I love the side bun she has! yes i agree it would look bettter with the small details of a flower or some sort of hair accesory. Maybe the bangs can be more of a side part instead of middle part?
Earrings: i do like that one and i saw it when i was looking around too. I'm sure we can find something similar to that at icing or claire's lol
Bracelet: i know these two examples are too much money but i thought they were pretty and they fit the descriptions we had at the meetings..so these are just so you get an idea of what i was thinking the bracelet should look like...

Shoes: umm i like the pumps also but idk about the platform part of it lol i really liked the jessica simpson ones but they look very high. i feel like you would basically be on ur tip toes. so maybe if there was a pump without the platform part?
As for the dates for the parties..::sigh:: my parents just called today to tell me when our family vacation is. I'll be in DR from july 5th-12th. so the 11th i'll be out of the country. But we still have the 18th!! if i have it right she'll be working on the 18th. the weekend of the 25th she'll be off. but when she's off she volunteer's for EMS at robert wood..I'll have to make sure i'm right as far as her every other weekend work schedule...
ok well i g2g but i'll continue with this after my group project meeting
gina
jessica simpsons shoes are always comfy, as are BCBG, i am a huge fan... however keep in mind that when have a wide spectrum of shoes sizes to consider. we are ranging from size 5 to 11 so when we search we have to make sure we can get everyone the same shoe.
ReplyDeleteThe 18th is our date, so lets start calling male revue places. Gina, narrow it down to 3-5 and give me the numbers. I'll set it up.
I spoke to a family friend and she is willing to get us grab bag prizes for the bridal shower games for free. she is also going to locate some more games for us. I will keep you posted.
We need a guest list for the bridal shower this week. The invitations should go out ASAP to give people time to save the date because i knew that some jobs require up to a month or more for days off. Let me know if i should pick invitations up or need to write out envelopes etc.
I still love the wavy curls half up and half down but the bun is definitely cute and probably goes better with the dress.
we shouldn't have too much of a problem finding replicas of all the jewelery suggestions because i know that i have seen similar pieces in the stores (I just have to remember where) I am pretty much done with my semester so i will be hitting the stores this week.
That's all i got!
Hey girls! Great job with the blog Geia! Thanks for getting it all together.
ReplyDeleteHairstyles: I definitely like the bun idea better than the wavy. For the heat and having to look perfect for 7-8 hours of party and pictures, an up-do is more likely to stay looking good. Also, if we are trying to look unform, since we all have diferrent hair lengths and textures, I think we'd end up looking really varied with the firs hair do. I recommend looking at theknot.com for hair ideas. When I get the change I will post some. Perhaps something along these lines would be cute (flowers optional) http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/Hair_Updos_42666/detailview.aspx?id=42666&type=3&specific_detail=updos&pageindex=0
Also, for shoes and accessories I think we should really try stay as classic as possible and watch out for getting too trendy. The dress and venue Nat choose are sooo vintagey elegant that we should try to fit into the look she's going for. When Nat is looking at her wedding pics in 30 years, we want our look to still be considered elegant, not look too dated to the trends of today. In the end, we're gonna look freakin hot anyway cause, I mean, hello, it's us?!
For jewelery - here's some ideas too:

Okay, now I have to go to work so I'll post more later. Ooh, also found some pianist and officiant suggestions. Best to send them to Nat directly?
I liked the Pearl and Crystal Pendant the best out of all of them. And I think the 3.75 in. dyable peep toe shoes would really compliment the dress. What does everyone else think?
ReplyDeleteOh and the knot.com has some really nice bun up-dos, but i think we need to get these accessories taken care of first. Oh and the male revue is on! Savage Men, here we come!
ReplyDeleteok ladies great job researching shoes and jewlery..so far i haven't seen anything in shoe stores that would look good and be affordable..i think our best bet is to go to david's bridal and get our shoes there..not only can we get everyone's size but we an customize the color. i think we should decide on the shoe and color from david's bridal so we can order them asap. as far as jewlery goes i saw something at icing or claire's...one of the two that looked like the target earring geia posted but at a more affordable price..the downside was there were only two left lol so i'm still hunting..nat has even sent me an email from forever 21..they have good braclet options there we can peek at. i tried to upload the pic of the bracelet she sent me but it didn't work..so i just encourage going to the website an looking around..what she emailed me was one of those elastic bracelets but it had metallic gold beads on it and it had three rows of it so it was a thick bracelet.
ReplyDeleteas for the party, i was talking to heba and she said she saw some things on ebay that were kinda cool. we could personalize things such as shot glasses, ribbons, anything..so i was wondering as a party favor for the bachelorette party have something personalized just for the ten girls? or we could even use that idea for the bridal shower...i'm not ebay savy and i don't have an acct so i'll just go on and make one so i can see what kinda of things we can use or ideas we can use for the parties...i was at spencers and there were alot of things we buy to have nat wear that day and i think there were some games too but i think it was only the dirty games lol. i really really want to make use ebby's pic skills and make something for nat. i think a personal gift for her would be really special along with the poems or little speeches that go with it..so if we can arrange for that to happen that would be great...i'm going to start hunting for stuff more now cause i have a lil from classes etc..u'll hear from me again since i should have more time now
gina
hey guys just wanted to know if there's any plans to meet soon?
ReplyDeleteI like the half up/bangs swooped to the side/wavy hair look!lol very cute
ReplyDeleteHey girls, Just looked up the Savage Men and looks great! Which location will be see them at? Also, I recommend that we pay the extra $10 each to sit up front and pay the extra $$ for Natalia to get the "hot seat". Any objections?
ReplyDeleteI just went to Vegas for a friend's bachellorette party an we saw Thunder from Down Under (google it) and we payed extra to sit up front and she got picked and it truly made her night.
